HIGH SCHOOL ANNUALS:

The reference library at the El Quartelejo Museum includes a nearly complete set of Scott Community High School annuals, going back to 1921.   We are missing a few issues.  These books are valuable resources which are used by the museum staff, as well as the public.  We would really appreciate receiving a donation of the following yearbooks: 1956, 1963, 1965, 1997, 2004, 2007, 2009, and 2010.  If you can add to our collection, please bring them to the museum at 902 W. 5th Street, Scott City, or call 620.872.5912.  Thanks so much in advance!

WINTER HOURS:

We have started our new Winter hours, Mon. thru Fri. 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.  Marilyn Kendrick is now a full-time employee.  Darlene Arnold has also been hired as custodian. Volunteers have been filling the extra weekend hours as well, and how we appreciate YOU!  Call the office (620) 872-5912.

Tina Walker has been hired at the El Quartelejo Museum/Scott County Historical Society as Marketing Director.  She currently is the Marketing Director for Jerry Thomas Gallery & Collection.  Please contact Tina with any ideas or events that you think would be beneficial in promoting the El Quartelejo Museum/Jerry Thomas Gallery & Collection.  Tina can be contacted at 620.874.0174 or This email address is being protected from spambots. TEMPORARY GALLERY EXHIBITS

Some of you may not know that this is the 80th anniversary of the Scott County Historical Society.  The temporary gallery is currently displaying some items depicting the historical happenings from those 80 years.  If you haven’t seen the display yet, you need to get out soon, as we’ll be changing the display in a couple of weeks.

A new exhibit currently showcases the pen and ink artwork of Jacque Beckley Bell.  Jacque Bell is a native of Scott City, daughter of the late Paul and Ruth Beckley, and a 1956 graduate of SCHS.  She is a self-taught artist, also working in other mediums, and has some pottery on display as well.  Her artwork is for sale, and she can be contacted through the museum.

SPECIAL GIFT

Our thanks to Barbara and Gilbert Knipp who recently donated a beautiful, fully-furnished Victorian dollhouse to the museum.  What fun it was to clean and prepare each tiny piece for storage.  We plan to use it as the centerpiece of our Holiday Exhibit this year.  We will display vintage dolls as well, and invite you to share your oldest treasured dolls with us.  We won’t want those until the middle of November, but be thinking ahead.

SCOTT CITY – ALL AMERICA CITY 2011

We all know that Scott City is a wonderful place to live, but now Scott City has officially been designated an All American City for 2011.

NEW IN THE JERRY THOMAS GALLERY

An impressive new painting by Jerry Thomas is now on display in the Thomas Gallery.  "Land of My People", is a wonderful painting portraying a Crow Elder in Southeastern Montana, dressed in full ceremonial regalia. The model for the painting is Newton Old Crow, shown wearing his grandfather’s headdress, which was worn at the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1851.   It is worth a special trip to the gallery to see Jerry’s newest work.

Also recently added, the beautiful painting, "Morning Frost",  that Jerry painted for the Governor's Inaugural Ringneck Classic that was held in Oakley, Kansas, November 20, 2012.  The logo Jerry created for the hunt is on display as well.

Jerry's logo for the Western Vistas Historic Byways is now at his Gallery for everyone to see.
